March 29, 2020 BULLETIN:  Yoga School goes ONLINE!
I hope you are finding your way in this very difficult, poignant, confusing, and life-changing time. I personally hope the life-changing part is a shift in a much better direction than how humanity has been behaving over such a long period of time. I may be a dreamer or I might be in the minority, but if you’ve been on the path of yoga for any amount of time, you have also learned it’s not the usual path in life.

It has been very gratifying for me over the past 2 week to be providing yoga online to our communities, near and far. My teacher from India was with us this morning too. There are good and noble things happening. And there are ways to participate in increasing the good.  No doubt there will still be difficulties to come, life will be changed, we won’t reverse back to what was before the crisis.

Now is a time for greater resilience and for the mind to open up to ideas, wisdom, and encouragement that we would not have had access to, nor perhaps found timely or implementable, just 3 weeks ago.

For me, this is where the yoga comes in. Every time I practice I am brought back to a wisdom larger than I could be responsible for. I am also able to relieve myself of the apprehensions, misperceptions, and angst of the world around me long enough, and with enough compassion, to then move back into service on behalf of a greater good.

I am writing to you today because we have decided to move our Yoga Teacher Trainings Online - which we have permission for from both Yoga Alliance and International Association of Yoga Therapists (so far just through May).

I have a lot of online experience over the years, from clients to trainings to classes. So this isn’t a big shift for me technically.
Though I do recognize it will feel like a shift for students to acclimate.

We have an Info Session scheduled for our 200hr Yoga Teacher Training program. I’ll be answering some of these questions (and more).
Here are a few considerations for you:
  • Moving online means every part of your training will be recorded for your continued access.
  • Our first 2 modules will be online. The second 2 modules would still be in person.
  • Your personal practice will deepen. All of your weekly classes can be taken with me directly as I am teaching online 2x/day right now.
  • You will also get to do some practice teaching to each other online. This is a new avenue for yoga - and, we are finding it is quite effective actually. Don’t get me wrong here. Online yoga can not replace in person yoga. An online community can be strong and nurturing and amazing. But it can’t replace the in-person depth that communities have together.
  • My teachers from India will be able to join us for training components without flying overseas. Usually we are only able to see them when they come for a specific teaching in which it is combined with everyone else who wants to see them.
  • You will want to have some yoga props at home. A mat, 2 blocks, 2 blankets, if possible a bolster or pillows, and a folding chair. Maybe even an eye pillow for the deeper savasana experience!
  • For those experiencing the financial hardship of the health pandemic, we are widening our considerations for the training fees. You are welcome to discuss this with me directly so that I can understand your situation and we can configure a strategy together.
  • If you were considering this training for the Fall and now have a change of schedule due to the global crisis, this may be a more ideal time for you to join us. It is possible to begin with us now and to continue in the Fall if your schedule changes again.
